Type: Research Cooperation

Activity Description:

Study of the processes responsible for the origin and maintenance of the Biodiversity of the Cerrado, Amazon and Atlantic Forest. It is analyzed how this knowledge can be used in the conservation of this Biodiversity. For the research, different taxonomic groups are being studied, among plants, invertebrates and vertebrates, under different aspects: beta diversity in streams communities, phylogeny / phylogeography of plants and vertebrates, community structure and functional diversity of anurans and mammals, aquatic fauna in the conservation of forest fragments in the Amazon and igarapés, diversity of saprophytic flies and its relation with environmental heterogeneity, analysis of bird gaps, aquatic insects and birds in Amazonia, primate behavior and its role in the dynamics of the Amazonian forest , loss of endemism in the Amazonian forest, ecology and plant genetics of the Atlantic and Cerrado Forest on a landscape scale, and conservation, the use of fauna by the Amazonian population and their role in conservation.

Research Project in which it is linked:

Ecology, Genetics and Conservation of the Cerrado, Amazon and Atlantic Forest.

Duration:

Started in 2015 (ongoing).

Institutions Involved:

Emilio Goeldi Museum, Federal University of Pará, Federal University of Goiás and UNESP (Campus of Rio Claro).

Number of Professors and Students involved:

26 professors and students involved.

Type:  Research Cooperation

Activity Description:

Project developed from a partnership formalized between the Federal University of Pará, the International Conservation and Agropalma company, for the development of a research that involves the monitoring of fauna in areas of Palmeira planting to produce Dendê oil. Through this monitoring and quantification of environmental variables, the objective is to elaborate an index of fauna integrity that can be replicated in other parts of the Amazon. The study area is located in the Municipality of Moju, state of Pará.

Research Project in which it is linked:

Effect of Large-Scale Dendê Palm Tree Planting on Biodiversity in the Eastern Amazon.

Duration:

Started in 2012 (ongoing).

Institutions Involved:

Federal University of Pará, the International Conservation and Agropalma

Number of Professors and Students involved:

Eight students and seven professor involved.

Type:  Research Cooperation

Activity Description:

The research project "Scenarios for the Amazon: Climate, Biodiversity and Land Use" aimed to integrate actions and competencies of three of the major research programs of the Ministry of Science and Technology for the Amazon and, thus, to form more complete scenarios that allow to broaden the technical-scientific base and the support to the decision-making at state and regional levels in the Amazon. Another of the objectives was to increase and improve the actions of dissemination of the knowledge generated and the training of qualified human resources in the areas of program performance. Among the guiding axes of the project are the search for the strengthening of scientific research infrastructure and the expansion of current activities and projects in collaboration with other regional institutional programs for the formation and / or consolidation of a complete (multidisciplinary) that subsidized research, monitoring and regional development actions.

Research Project in which it is linked:

Scenarios for the Amazon: Climate, Biodiversity and Land Use

Ministry of Science and Technology, Large Scale Biosphere-Atmosphere Project in the Amazon (LBA), Thematic Network on Environmental Modeling of the Amazon (GEOMA) and Biodiversity Research Program (PPBio).

Number of Professors and Students involved:

27 students and 30 professors involved.
